This is part 1 of a 32-part series covering each conference and conference tournament. These previews are meant to provide every bracketologist with the information they need to make informed projections about the teams of the conference.
The final standings:
Boston 15-3
American 13-5
Holy Cross 12-6
Bucknell 11-7
Army 10-8
Lehigh 7-11
Colgate 6-12
Loyola(MD) 6-12
Lafayette 6-12
Navy 4-14
Tournament format:
Each of the 10 teams play in the tournament. Each game of the tournament is hosted by the higher seed. First round is March 3, quarterfinals March 5, semifinals March 8, championship March 12.
The matchups:
10) Navy (9-20) at 7) Colgate (12-17)
9) Lafayette (10-19) at 8) Loyola(MD) (11-18)
8/9 winner at 1) Boston (22-9)
5) Army (14-15) at 4) Bucknell (16-13)
6) Lehigh (14-17) at 3) Holy Cross (18-12)
7/10 winner at 2) American (17-12)
The stakes:
This is your garden variety one-bid league. Boston U is the one team that would definitely avoid the 16 line for the conference - any other champion and there's the threat of being a 16 seed. Boston has some reasonable road wins (Irvine, Maryland, Quinnipiac). The other contenders (American, Holy Cross, Bucknell) didn't do much OOC.
Lower down, the conference isn't going to be in the NIT unless Boston loses. American and Holy Cross figure to be good enough to get invites from the CBI/CIT if they want them, and probably Bucknell as well. Army would need to make the finals to be CIT-eligible.
