Bubble Watch 1/20, part 2

Major southeastern conferences here.

ACC

Lockbox

Syracuse (18-0) (5-0) RPI 6 SoS 43
Vital signs:  6-0 R/N, non-con SoS 51, 6-0 vs. RPI Top 50, 10-0 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Villanova, Pitt, Cal/Minny/Baylor in Maui, UNC, Indiana, etc etc
Bad losses:  none
Only potential snag - note the lack of true road win that are quality.  Plenty of time to fix that, though.

Duke (14-4) (3-2) RPI 17 SoS 17
Vital signs:  3-4 R/N, non-con SoS 29, 4-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 6-4 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Virginia, Michigan, N-UCLA
Bad losses:  @Notre Dame, if you're talking about getting a top seed
Next.

Pittsburgh (16-2) (4-1) RPI 18 SoS 82
Vital signs:  5-2 R/N, non-con SoS 177, 0-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-2 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  N-Stanford?  Wake and Maryland?  Hoo boy
Bad losses:  none
Get some freaking wins over teams that matter, Pitt.  Please.

Virginia (13-5) (4-1) RPI 23 SoS 9
Vital signs:  5-3 R/N, non-con SoS 44, 3-4 vs. RPI Top 50, 7-5 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  sweep of Florida St, N-SMU?
Bad losses:  @Green Bay?  @Tennessee?  at least they were roadies
A bit of a controversy, perhaps.  Virginia in the lockbox?  For now, yes.  They went out and played risky road games and neutral games, so they get the benefit of the doubt.  They can't rest easy, though.  Much work left.

Bubble

Florida St (12-5) (3-2) RPI 24 SoS 19
Vital signs:  6-4 R/N, non-con SoS 39, 2-5 vs. RPI Top 50, 5-5 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  N-UMass, N-VCU, Maryland?  @Clemson?
Bad losses:  all losses are inside top 35, so nah, but were swept by Virginia
Those neutral court wins over A-10 schools are more valuable than you think.  Your typical bubble-plus team in a power conference.

North Carolina (11-6) (1-3) RPI 56 SoS 24
Vital signs:  3-3 R/N, non-con SoS 27, 3-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-5 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  @Michigan St (!!!), Kentucky (!!), N-Louisville (!)
Bad losses:  @UAB (!), Miami (!), Belmont at home, @Wake too?
Pass.

NIT watch

Wake Forest (12-6) (2-3) RPI 65 SoS 81 - a 1-6 R/N record kills their resume for now; we'll keep an eye if they get a signature home win or a good road win
Maryland (11-7) (3-2) RPI 69 SoS 47 - a couple bad losses and no signature wins
North Carolina St (11-7) (1-4) RPI 73 SoS 52 - actually has road wins at Tenn. and ND which might help down the road
Clemson (13-4) (4-1) RPI 79 SoS 179 - get more quality wins and we'll pay attention more
Notre Dame (11-7) (2-3) RPI 94 SoS 50 - did beat Duke and N-Indiana, so there's hope simmering

Nope

Miami (10-7) (2-3) RPI 81 SoS 78
Boston College (4-13) (1-4) RPI 141 SoS 2
Georgia Tech (10-8) (1-4) RPI 152 SoS 125
Virginia Tech (8-9) (1-4) RPI 190 SoS 99

SEC

Lockbox

Florida (15-2) (4-0) RPI 8 SoS 20
Vital signs:  5-2 R/N, non-con SoS 17, 3-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 5-2 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Kansas, N-Memphis, Florida St
Bad losses:  none
Are there enough high-end qualities to the resume to get to the 1 line?  Could be doubtful.

Kentucky (13-4) (3-1) RPI 11 SoS 5
Vital signs:  2-4 R/N, non-con SoS 12, 3-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 6-4 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Louisville, Boise?  Tennessee?  eh
Bad losses:  none, although @Arkansas and @UNC might count
Their issue - they played a great SoS, and did get one signature win out of it, but didn't get enough depth of quality wins in the resume.  And the SEC isn't well equipped to provide them.  They need the eye test to move up the S-Curve.

Bubble

Missouri (14-3) (2-2) RPI 54 SoS 122
Vital signs:  5-2 R/N, non-con SoS 151, 1-0 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-1 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  UCLA, @NC St?
Bad losses:  Georgia for sure, @Vandy probably
That UCLA win is saving their bacon.  Sneaky fact:  the schedule is much worse than you'd think.  Many of their opponents have big names and little heft, unfortunately for Mizzou.  This puts them in peril a bit.  They need to stop losing marginal games.

Tennessee (10-6) (2-2) RPI 57 SoS 25
Vital signs:  3-4 R/N, non-con SoS 36, 2-3 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-4 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Virginia, N-Xavier, @LSU?
Bad losses:  Texas A&M, N-UTEP?
At least they have a couple wins you can point to that look good.  That's better than some bubble teams.  Solid SoS is saving them for now, but the work isn't done.

Arkansas (12-5) (1-3) RPI 67 SoS 75
Vital signs:  1-4 R/N, non-con SoS 157, 3-3 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-3 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  Kentucky, N-Minnesota, SMU
Bad losses:  @A&M, @Georgia
The issue is obvious - really great at home/neutral, really poor on the road.  They need a road win of some kind, any kind; then they'll be in fine position.

LSU (11-5) (2-2) RPI 62 SoS 76
Vital signs:  4-3 R/N, non-con SoS 90, 0-2 vs. RPI Top 50, 2-4 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  N-St Joe's and N-Butler?
Bad losses:  Rhode Island
They will need a win, multiple ones, against the teams ahead of them in the SEC, period.  There's time to get them, but there's a clear problem here.

Ole Miss (12-5) (3-1) RPI 66 SoS 90
Vital signs:  5-2 R/N, non-con SoS 117, 0-3 vs. RPI Top 50, 1-4 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  LSU?  MTSU?
Bad losses:  @Miss. St
I'm probably being too generous putting them on the bubble.

EIEIO watch

Texas A&M (12-5) () RPI 112 SoS 148
Mississippi St (12-5) () RPI 149 SoS 255

Nope

Alabama (7-9) () RPI 96 SoS 4
Vanderbilt (9-7) () RPI 108 SoS 71
Georgia (9-7) () RPI 137 SoS 107
South Carolina (7-10) () RPI 145 SoS 34
Auburn (8-7) () RPI 189 SoS 132

CUSA

Bubble

Southern Miss (14-3) (3-1) RPI 38 SoS 127
Vital signs:  8-3 R/N, non-con SoS 132, 1-1 vs. RPI Top 50, 4-1 vs. RPI Top 100
Quality wins:  @N Dak St, La Tech
Bad losses:  @Tulsa, @WKU
Probably a loss too many at this point in the season.  And they're out of quality win chances.  This just isn't going to end well for USM.

NIT watch

Louisiana Tech (14-4) (3-1) RPI 84 SoS 234 - road win at Oklahoma keeps them breathing, but the bubble case is still shaky at best
Charlotte (12-5) (3-1) RPI 105 SoS 190 - those neutral wins over Michigan and Kansas St never go away, but way too many questionable losses in the interim

EIEIO watch

UAB (10-5) (1-2) RPI 138 SoS 195
MTSU (10-6) (2-1) RPI 127 SoS 161
UTEP (11-6) (3-1) RPI 111 SoS 121
Old Dominion (9-9) (3-0) RPI 183 SoS 194 - if nothing else, the top half of this league will be fascinating to see unfold

Nope

Tulsa (8-10) (3-1) RPI 125 SoS 49
North Texas (8-8) (1-3) RPI 160 SoS 130
Florida International (8-8) (2-2) RPI 202 SoS 246 *postseason ineligible

East Carolina (7-7) (0-3) RPI 220 SoS 287
Tulane (9-9) (2-2) RPI 251 SoS 268
Florida Atlantic (4-12) (2-2) RPI 272 SoS 164
Rice (3-12) (0-4) RPI 286 SoS 149
UTSA (4-10) (2-2) RPI 297 SoS 224
Marshall (4-13) (0-4) RPI 317 SoS 238
