12/7 recap

I'll sort these scores any way I want to.

The race to the top lines:
Arizona 63, UNLV 58 - missed chance for UNLV
Colorado 75, Kansas 72 - NOT a missed chance for Colorado, though.  signature win
Wisconsin 70, Marquette 64 - there might be room for 2 B1G teams on the top line.  maybe
Iowa St 91, Northern Iowa 82 (OT) - this was at a neutral.  survive and advance, ISU
Villanova 98, St Joseph's 68 - beating a half-decent team on the road by 30
Iowa 83, Drake 66
Gonzaga 80, New Mexico St 68

Quality wins can be found here:
Missouri 80, UCLA 71 - hey, the SEC did something right!
UMass 105, BYU 96 - this is why it was important that BYU had built up some early goodwill.  as for UMass, the focus is suddenly protected seeding, not the bubble
New Mexico 63, Cincinnati 54 - useful for seeding
Green Bay 75, Virginia 72 - This was a true road game for Virginia, so there's time and chances to rebound, this won't be overly harmful to the resume.  and the Horizon needs the profile boost in general
St Louis 67, Valparaiso 65 - here because it's a true road win

What?:
Illinois St 81, Dayton 75 - NCAA teams don't lose this type of game, Dayton
South Florida 66, Alabama 64 - see above comment, Alabama

They're big names, but that doesn't mean you should care:
Texas 81, Temple 80 (OT)
Arkansas 74, Clemson 68
Wake Forest 76, Richmond 66 (OT)
Xavier 85, Bowling Green 73 (OT) - can we safely abandon Xavier now?  I tried to at the start of the year, but they suckered me in for a couple of weeks
Florida International 72, FGCU 71 - can we go back to ignoring FGCU again?  thanks

Various mid-major results of minor interest.  Your mileage of caring may vary:
LaSalle 65, Stony Brook 57
Harvard 79, Boston 68 (OT) - well, Harvard IS stockpiling some wins
Akron 73, Cleveland St 61 - Akron's 4th game of the season.  seriously?
Mercer 64, Denver 63 (OT)
Toledo 80, Robert Morris 77 - um, Toledo is 8-0.  road wins over RMU, Detroit, BC.  not a great 8-0 but an 8-0 nonetheless
Pacific 78, Utah St 68 - um, Pacific won AT USU.  ok

Easy winners against cupcakes:  Syraacuse, Ohio St, Louisville, Wichita St, Memphis, Michigan

Sunday highlights:
Maryland/George Washington at a neutral site.  Let's see how serious GWU is.  Oklahoma/George Mason at the same neutral site, too.
Oregon at Ole Miss.  Washington at SDSU.  Litmus tests.
Also, Virginia Tech/Miami kicks off ACC play.  Oh yay.
In other bad major-on-major crime, BC/USC in a game no one cares about, Seton Hall/Rutgers in a game no one cares about, and Nebraska/Creighton in a game Creighton will win in a blowout.
Oh, and the MAAC is playing MORE conference games this early?  Why?
ODU/VCU as well.  This was so much more appealing when it was in the CAA.
