MEAC conference tournament preview

This is part 14 of a 32-part series that will take a look at every conference and conference tournament in the country.  We'll recap who's playing and what the stakes are for each team in the conference.

The standings:
Hampton 13-3 (18-10)
Norfolk St 12-4 (16-15)
South Carolina St 12-4 (17-13)
Bethune-Cookman 10-6 (14-17)
Savannah St 9-7 (14-14)
North Carolina A&T 7-9 (10-21)
North Carolina Central 7-9 (12-18)
Maryland-Eastern Shore 7-9 (10-21)
Morgan St 6-10 (8-21)
Howard 6-10 (12-19)
Coppin St 6-10 (8-21)
Delaware St 5-11 (7-24)
Florida A&M 4-12 (8-21)

Tournament format:
This tournament goes on forever.  Men and women together, so the whole thing's going to stretch from Monday March 7 to Saturday March 12.  6 days!  Norfolk is the site of the tourney, so a modest home-court advantage to the 2 seed.  Florida A&M is ineligible; so much for the 13 seed.

The matchups:
1) Hampton vs. 8/9) Maryland-Eastern Shore/Morgan St
4) Bethune-Cookman vs. 5/12) Savannah St/Delaware St
2) Norfolk St vs. 7/10) North Carolina Central/Howard
3) South Carolina St vs. 6/11) North Carolina A&T/Coppin St

The stakes:
The MEAC did the impossible this season!  THE SWAC BEAT THEM IN CONFERENCE RPI.  The impossible dream has happened, thanks to the MEAC!

Needless to say, everyone's a disaster.  Hampton's got the only sub-200 RPI.  This conference is headed to Dayton.  The fun part could be seeing what the CIT does, because we have some fraudulent teams over .500 here who might want a postseason bid.  Maybe a SC State/Norfolk St semifinal winner should deserve to play, but man.  This conference is bad.
